Secret of Solstice
Featuring ICOT Orchestra and Soprano Zorana Sadiq
ICOT is proud to present its next concert on December 5th, 2014. This concert features ICOT Orchestra conducted by Maziar Heidari. The orchestra also presents instruments such as harp, piano, and accordion. We are delighted to have the amazing soprano Zorana Sadiq with us in this event and Michael Bridge on the accordion.
The concert premiers 8 new pieces by ICOT composers all revolving the theme of Yalda or Winter Solstice. Yalda is an ancient Iranian tradition where the families celebrate the longest night of the year by gathering around and telling stories and indulging in delicious seasonal foods.
We have collectively used the poetry of Houshang Ebtehaj “Keyvan was a Star”, and also famous Latin phrase regarding the winter solstice “Natalis Solis Invicti” which translates to the birth of the unconquered sun. These new works find commonalities of the two traditions by using bits and pieces of many languages such as Farsi, English, and Latin.
